found themselves being attacked on both sides, but they gained confidence when they saw how much difficulty Hannibal's army had navigating the territory.  Some of the troops became disoriented and some of their animals, especially the horses, were petrified by the noise and the narrowness of the pass.
     While Hannibal's army was fighting, Hannibal watched from above until he thought his entry into the battle wouldn't cause too much confusion among his own troops.  When Hannibal arrived with the rest of the infantry, the Allobroges fled in fright.
